Recognition as a world class testing centre

HMRC with IT partners Capgemini and SogetiHi, I’m Felicity Heard and I’m a Test Service Manager, writing on behalf of the team to let you know that the Test & Release Delivery Group Managed Service is celebrating the successful completion of a two year journey to be recognised as a world class testing centre, by passing level 5 of the global test standard called the Test Maturity Model integration (TMMi).

Evolving maturely

That might not sound like a huge achievement until I tell you that only nine other organisations in the world have reached this standard. TMMi is a measure of the maturity of software quality management and testing. It includes five levels through which an organisation passes as its testing process evolves into a managed, defined, measured and optimised service.

Preparing for the assessment was no small feat as HMRC, together with teams from our IT partners Capgemini and Sogeti, worked to ensure that 16 assessment interviews went smoothly and that over 100 process documents were created, reviewed, piloted, approved and implemented.  I am proud to be part of the team that uses TMMi as one of the levers to transform the HMRC test operation into one that is integrated through the lifecycle, provides active test management and has high levels of service automation and virtualisation. More specifically, I was proud to be one of the people to be successfully interviewed as part of the assessment process.

The TMMi Foundation assessors focused on key Test Process Areas including, policy and strategy, test planning, design and execution through to integration and peer reviews.

What this means now

Achieving TMMi Level 5 accreditation is a significant milestone that will enable HMRC to achieve key organisational objectives. The HMRC Test Strategy expects testing to be delivered to the latest and highest industry standard and techniques for test services and demonstrates our commitment to driving quality, efficiency and making sure our IT does what the customer requires.  TMMi is another measure of our commitment to improve outcomes for customers.

Being benchmarked in this way gives us confidence that we are working to the highest industry standard, one that is evolving and increasingly efficient and productive. This also supports the development of our people’s knowledge of industry-leading test service approaches, structures and processes.

    Felicity ,

I am very interested in how you found TMMI working in the context of Agile, it would be great to have a chat at some point.
