Well we’ve just about recovered from the final of the Brathay Apprentice Challenge. Lots of good memories and some sunburn (hard to believe I know) but best of all a certificate recognising our team as Runner Up in the national competition. An amazing achievement considering we were up against 700 apprentices in 80 teams.
Just pipped at the post by the UK Atomic Energy Authority, we're still really proud and so glad we took part. It took a lot of hard work and was a real team effort even when we arrived in the Lake District for the final show down between the last 8 teams.
In the final we built rafts, hiked up a fell, whistled down zip lines and communicated across miles using only a pair of flags. And we delivered a presentation to the leaders of the Brathay Trust, sharing the positive impact that the challenge has had not only on our local community but also on our team and HMRC.
Over the course of the challenge, we met with employers, schools, politicians and our colleagues to share our experience of the benefits of apprenticeships. In return, we’ve all gained loads of experience and skills like teamwork, communication and public speaking, that will help us with our careers and stay with us for a long time.
Taking part in the challenge was a brilliant and totally worthwhile experience and one that we want to make an annual event for future groups of apprentices joining HMRC Digital.
For now though, it's back to work. Jenny 🙂
