I’m Jane Andrews, HMRC’s Digital Services Manager for business & agents. This is my first post on the Digital Blog and an opportunity for me to tell you about something we’ve added to Your Tax Account. A new service that integrates our systems and simplifies the way customers file accounts and pay corporation tax.
The Your Tax Account (YTA) for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) gives them an online overview of their main business taxes and gives access to key online services, help and information all in one place.
We’d already combined YTA with the Online Payment Service so SMEs have a personalised online page where they can see all their main business tax accounts and make direct payments - 3.4 million customers have used YTA.
But to make it even more useful we’ve joined forces with Companies House and combined the new Company Account and Tax Online (CATO) with YTA. So now, when a customer pays their corporation tax on YTA they can also file their accounts with Companies House and file their Company Return to HMRC, all at the same time.
The service has been commended for its straightforward and seamless integration, making it a lot easier for businesses.
So far 6,000 customers have filed their returns on the early test version of CATO, which is a great start. But even better, feedback has been very positive.
YTA also recently completed its Digital Service Standard Assessment, which means it meets the Government Digital Service requirements for fulfilling customers’ needs and being straightforward to use. This is fantastic news for our customers and I’m really proud of my team for their hard work in getting the service to this stage. Being able to make digital services available to businesses and make changes to the live service will make a real difference in reducing administrative burdens on business.
Over the next couple of years we’re also developing other new services such as payrolling benefits in kind and a more streamlined company registration service. I’ll post again soon to let you know how we’re getting on.
