I’m Saheel, the new Digital Service Manager for Self Assessment. As well as introducing myself, I wanted to update you on some changes that are taking place.
I recently joined the team having spent the last several years doing digital delivery for HMRC. What an exciting time to join as we continue to research, design and develop new features for Digital Self Assessment.
Tax Account Service
This year we introduced a beta tax account service which makes it easier for our business customers to see their tax affairs in one place. From the 18 December all Self Assessment only customers (that is, people who are self-employed with no other source of income, no employees and are not registered for VAT), will also start using the new tax account. This will make it easier for customers to see what they owe, when they need to file a return and make a payment.
The new tax account will ask you if you want to register for Self Assessment email reminders, these reminders prompt customers to check their secure messages on the tax account. The online messages replace the Self Assessment letters that are currently sent in the post, giving you quick and secure access to important information and help. Over 300,000 people are now signed-up for email reminders and we are receiving some really good feedback.
